Reliable and high-quality measuring and sampling technology is indispensable for exposure analysis and assessment of a pollutant situation. We have a wide range of measuring and sampling devices from well-known manufacturers, which meet all the requirements placed on modern equipment in terms of quality and safety.

The qualified taking of air, material or dust samples is an essential pillar of the assessment of a pollutant problem. State-of-the-art equipment, regular in-house training, interdisciplinary external further training, a constant exchange of experience and the flow of information from the sampler to the analysis laboratory are fundamental elements of our quality assurance.

Range of measurement technology services:

  • Accredited indoor air sampling for asbestos and synthetic mineral fibres (measurements for inventory, control measurements before elimination of the black area, success check measurements) according to German Engineers' Association 3492 and DIN EN ISO 16000-7

  • Ambient air sampling for asbestos and synthetic mineral fibres according to BGI 505-46 (workplace measurements)

  • Device acceptance measurements according to German Engineers' Association guideline 3861 (determination of fibre concentrations in flowing clean gas, checking of vacuum retaining devices in the black area of asbestos remediation in a three-year cycle)

  • Indoor air sampling for PCB

  • Indoor air sampling for PCP, lindane, DDT

  • Indoor air sampling for PAK

  • Accredited indoor air sampling for VOC (volatile organic compounds)

  • Accredited indoor air sampling for formaldehyde

  • Indoor air sampling for moulds

The main tasks lie in the failure analysis of materials, such as dirt, coverings or unknown substances to verify damage sustained for quality management and appraisals.

A further point is analytical support in product development, materials and material connections. Here, our material analyses show damage patterns and help you to take action to regulate this.

Range of services in materials Analysis:

  • determination of particle size distributions through scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

  • representation of surface morphologies using scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

  • analysis of element compositions of materials through energy dispersive microanalysis (EDX)

  • phase identification using X-ray diffraction

  • determination of the phase inventory and the quantitative phase distributions through X-ray diffraction

DAMAGE ANALYSIS

By means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) we can view the surfaces of components in the micro range and can characterise the damages caused mechanically or corrosively. In this, the causes of mechanical failure are revealed by analysis of the fracture surface.

Using energy dispersive microanalysis (EDX) of corrosion products, we analyse the elements contained therein, to detect possible reasons for the corrosion attack.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

The failure analysis serves as an approach to developing, maintaining and improving the quality of products, and process technologies, as well as damage caused by environmental influences.

By using energy-dispersive microanalysis (EDX), the chemical composition of materials is determined quickly and non-destructively.

EDX mapping reflects the distribution of elements in structures. Studies of metal structures provide information on the grain size of the microstructure and the presence of defects such as voids or inclusions. Surface defects, layer thicknesses and layer structure can be determined by using the electron microscope on the cross section of a coated sample.

It is also possible for the size distributions and compositions of powder particles to be determined.

MATERIAL SCIENTIFIC SCOPE

  • sample preparation for SEM/light microscopy (e.g. grindings)

  • microstructural analysis of metals

  • elemental composition of materials (EDX)

  • element mapping (concentration map of the elements)

  • mechanical and corrosive damage analysis of metals

  • coating characterisation

  • comparative studies of dirt/debris on surfaces
